We had an enjoyable day at the Anstey Gala, and it was great to see so many families out enjoying themselves. It was nice to see Peter Bedford MP attending and meeting local residents.
Businesses in Charnwood
Businesses in Charnwood are being encouraged to sign up for a free event which will offer top tips, keynote speakers and networking opportunities to help them develop.
‘Going for Growth’ will be held on Friday 8th November 2024 as part of the Leicester Business Festival. It is being organised by inCharnwood, the borough council’s economic development and regeneration team. The event will be held at Loughborough’s Charnwood Campus. There will also be a chance to find out more about Charnwood’s Scale-up programme which can help established businesses wanting to expand. The scheme can give businesses a comprehensive diagnostic to establish their priorities, compose an action plan and agree a business improvement project. This could include a grant contribution to use to fund an expert to help remove barriers and accelerate growth.
Attendance is free but booking is essential and can be done online at: www.incharnwood.com/goingforgrowth.
Shop Charnwood
Residents are encouraged to support local high streets and businesses through a new campaign. Discover Charnwood have launched the Shop Charnwood campaign to showcase businesses and encourage people to shop more locally.
Discover Charnwood is calling on businesses to get involved and be featured as part of the campaign, to be shared across social media and email newsletters. A campaign web page has been created on the Discover Charnwood website and there will be promotions of businesses shared over the coming weeks. Residents can nominate businesses to feature and support local businesses in many different ways. This could be through, but not restricted to, making a purchase; businesses can also be supported through sharing social media content, leaving constructive reviews, and spreading the word about those businesses to friends and family.
To find out more, visit www.discovercharnwood.co.uk/shopcharnwood. The campaign page sets out the many reasons to buy local and some top tips and links to other useful websites.

Halloween and Bonfire Night
We know many residents look forward to these autumn dates in the calendar and we want everyone who celebrates these events to enjoy them safely, but please bear in mind that some residents find these evenings difficult. Photocopy and enlarge the poster below and put it in your window if you do not want to be disturbed on Halloween.
We have also provided some ueful information to keep pets calm during the evening when fireworks are being let off. When the fireworks start:
- Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off
- Move your pet to a safe haven each evening before the fireworks begin. Provide toys and other things that they enjoy in that safe haven
- Make sure there are things for you to do too, so your pet isn't left alone
- Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks. Black out your pet’s safe haven, so they can't see any flashes outside
- Put on some music or the TV to mask the fireworks sounds
- Ignore the firework noises yourself. Play with a toy to see if your pet wants to join in, but don't force them to play
- If you have a dog, consider getting it a thunder vest.
If you have any issues or concerns, we are here to help.
