Polling Day
Just a reminder that polling day is Thursday 2nd May for the Police and Crime Commissioner. There are five candidates standing, you only vote for one, and it is a ‘First Past the Post’ result.
The counts will be held on Friday 3rd May and we expect the winning candidate to be announced that afternoon.
All residents that are registered to vote should have received their polling cards. Just as a reminder, Jubilee Hall is closed, and these are the temporary polling stations for Anstey:
Polling District CA1 will attend St Mary’s Church Rooms, Church Lane, Anstey, LE7 7AF.
Polling District CA2 will attend a Mobile Unit located in Sheepwash Lane Car Park, Sheepwash Lane, LE7 7BP.
Photo ID will be required when voting at a polling station. This requirement was introduced by the UK Government last year and applies to most elections including the one for the Police and Crime Commissioner.
A full list of accepted proofs of ID can be found on the Council’s website: www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/voter_id_faqs

Charnwood 50th Anniversary
The borough of Charnwood is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024.
The borough was created on 1st April 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972 when three former districts – Barrow upon Soar Rural District, Loughborough Municipal Borough, and Shepshed Urban District – were all abolished.
To celebrate its golden anniversary, the Council will be highlighting everything that is great about the borough, including its landmarks, open spaces, businesses, and its people, on social media and its other online channels.
The Council will also be looking back on the past 50 years and is asking residents from Charnwood and beyond to take part in the celebrations by sharing their favourite memories, moments, or places about Charnwood, on social media.
You can send in your own photographs and videos here: www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/CBCis50/ Please consider including details about what the picture/video shows and when it was taken.
Memories shared will be posted on social media channels and will also feature on a designated webpage: www.charnwood.gov.uk/pages/cbc50
Alongside the Council’s celebrations, Loughborough Library will be hosting their ‘50th Anniversary Exhibition 1974-2024’ from 9th May until 27th July 2024.
The exhibition will be hosted in the Local and Family History Centre section of the library and will feature photos and monuments from the past half century. The Loughborough Library Local Studies Volunteer Group have collated the exhibition. The Council will also be looking at other opportunities to mark the milestone year.
