Electoral Register
Residents of Charnwood are being asked to respond to this year’s check of the electoral register as thousands of forms will be hand-delivered across the borough. Charnwood Borough Council will send around 62,000 forms to homes to ensure that the electoral register is current.
The Council is legally required to check that its electoral register is up to date each year to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote is registered and can have their say in future elections and referendums.
The Council recently sent an email to 43,000 households to carry out the check. Over 14,200 responses were received which has saved time, money, and helped the environment. Residents are being asked to check whether the information that appears on the electoral register for those living at their address is correct.
If the information is not correct (if people have moved out or into the property) then residents need to let the Council know as soon as possible so individual electoral registration forms can be sent to those who need to register to vote.
Households that receive a form are encouraged to read the letter carefully and respond by Monday 14th August. The Electoral Registration Officer needs the information to be able to publish a complete and accurate electoral register on 1st December each year.
Having your details on the electoral register will:
- allow you to vote
- improve your credit rating
- make it easier to access council services
- help you avoid a fine
Full details of how residents can complete the form online, by phone, via text or by post are all contained in the form sent to them. More information can be found on the Council’s website or residents can contact the helpline on: 01509 634546.
Postal Vote
Why not take the opportunity to register for a postal vote at the same time? With the recent changes in the requirement to have photo ID to be able to vote, it might be easier for you to vote via post.

Fly-Tipping
Residents are being warned to be careful with their waste as a fly-tipping crackdown begins.
The Leicestershire Waste Partnership has launched a campaign to prevent people illegally dumping waste with the warning that even if you pay someone to take rubbish away, if they are not licensed then it could still be fly-tipped and land you with fines.
The ‘It’s All Fly-Tipping’ campaign is being backed by councils in Leicester and Leicestershire which are part of the partnership. The consequences for fly-tipping can range from a £400 fixed penalty notice to an unlimited fine, a criminal record, or prison.
‘It’s All Fly-Tipping’ focuses on reminding people who may be thinking about dumping their waste that they are being watched. It also highlights the issue of paying someone who is operating without a waste licence to take waste away and it being fly tipped. People have a legal responsibility to check the person taking their waste away is a registered waste carrier.
Councils in the city and county deal with over 12,000 fly-tips each year. Each authority investigates fly-tips in their area, and action is taken when enough evidence is recovered.
You can visit the Environment Agency website at environment.data.gov.uk/public-register/ to check that traders and businesses hold the correct waste licence or ask the carrier for their certificate before handing the waste over. You can also visit lesswaste.org.uk/flytipping and follow the campaign on social media using the hashtag #ItsAllFlyTipping.

Member Grants enable us to provide grants to a wide variety of community and voluntary organisations within Anstey to actively assist the community to enjoy a better quality of life.
We have each been allocated a budget of £500 which can be used to support projects that bring benefits to our ward. We can spend our allocated amount of £500 on one project, divide it over two projects, or combine it with other funding from another councillor within the same ward.
The minimum you can apply for is £250 from each councillor, and the maximum you can apply for is £500 from each councillor.
If the total project cost is more than you are applying for, you will need to provide details of other sources of income, including grants, fundraising and membership subs etc. that will be used to cover the full project cost.
If your organisation would be interested in applying for a Member Grant, please contact us to discuss your request first.
Further details can be found here:
