To mark Queen Elizabeth's 70 year reign as monarch, the Platinum Jubilee weekend will involve an extended four day bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June to celebrate this historic milestone.
In Leicestershire, communities, civic groups, emergency services, schools, colleges and universities, and businesses can come together to celebrate the historic milestone by holding street parties, tea parties, concerts, community fetes, carnivals and parades, barbeques, religious services, open gardens or litter picks.
Funding is available for certain types of events. Check to see if you could apply for funding for your event.

A useful guide to organising a street party can be found here.

Beacon Lighting Thursday 2 June
There has been a long tradition of beacon lighting in the UK that celebrates royal jubilees, weddings, and coronations.
On the evening of 2 June, 70 beacons will be lit in each county of the United Kingdom to mark the monarch’s 70-year reign.
For this historic occasion, three types of beacons will be lit:
- A free-standing beacon fuelled by bottle gas.
- A beacon brazier with a metal shield. This could be built by local craftsmen/women or adopted as a project by a local organisation.
- A bonfire beacon.
In addition, communities with beacon braziers are encouraged to light them at night.
Even if you don’t have these types of beacons, you can still take part in this historic occasion by lighting up your building – the National Space Centre and County Hall will be illuminated.
If you would like to join the many organisations across Leicestershire lighting a beacon, you can view the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons guide to taking part.
There is a map which will be updated regularly showing the beacon lightings, events and activities being held in Leicestershire as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which can be found here
