This is the second resignation from the ruling group since May 2023. Cllr Louise Jones, from the Labour Party resigned in March 2024.

KickStart Market
A special market day set up for new traders and budding entrepreneurs is returning to Loughborough in October this year. The successful pilot event, which was held in May, was aimed specifically at young people aged 16 to 30 but this time around, the upper age limit has been removed to enable anyone to get involved.
Anyone interested in becoming a market trader or running a stall to support their new business can sign up, as well as students who want to sell items, display their work, or get feedback on their business ideas.
Alongside the market stalls, there will be a range of food outlets and entertainment, including live music.
The KickStart Market stalls will be free of charge on the day, but spaces must be booked in advance. The Council has also arranged public liability insurance for all the traders. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
To sign up and find out more, contact the markets team on [email protected]
The Hope Bell in Loughborough
The main structure of the Hope Bell in Loughborough, which will mark the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on local communities, was installed on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024. The last major bellfoundry in the UK, John Taylor & Co, based in Loughborough is making the Hope Bell on behalf of the Council.
The bell will be a tribute to the NHS and key workers and a reminder of how communities came together to support each other in challenging times. Located in Queen’s Park, Loughborough, it will also be a space for reflection to remember those lost in the pandemic.
The Hope Bell is a clock chime installation comprising of four quarter chime bells and the main Hope Bell to sound the hours. The stone base will be added in the coming weeks before the area is landscaped. The installation is due to be completed by October and power will then need to be added to operate the bells to make them chime.
The installation is part of the Lanes and Links project, led by Charnwood Borough Council, which aims to better connect the park and the town centre. The project is being funded by Loughborough Town Deal, which secured £16.9 million from the Government’s Towns Fund.
Dog Fouling
There seems to be an increase again in dog fouling around the village. Can we please ask all dog owners to pick up your dog mess and bin it. Please do not leave bags around to pick up on your return or leave hanging on trees! These bags take years to biodegrade and they are dangerous to wildlife.
Dog fouling laws are in place to protect us all. Dog faeces contains twice the harmful bacteria than human faeces and also contains parasites, including Toxocara, that can cause illness and infections. These can be transmitted through contact with contaminated soil, water, or other surfaces. It also causes a nasty mess if you step in it, cycle through it, push a wheelchair through it, or drive a mobility scooter through it. I hope all our dog owners will support us in trying to keep the village as clean as possible for us all to enjoy.
